An intriguing new CD compilation entitled The Droplift Project was recently released - although you can't actually buy it, even if you want to. The album - which is a protest against the copyright restrictions on sampling, along with the music industry in general - was distributed by having all of the contributing artists drop copies of the disc directly into the bins of record stores around the world. According to the collective, they hope that this tactic will "raise awareness of fair use issues in music, along with exposing some unsuspecting people to the wonderful world of audio collage and the art of the sample". Much more information, along with free downloads of the complete album in mp3 or full uncompressed format, is available at http://www.droplift.org.
